Pin-Occhio Contemporaneo
Exploring the figure of Pinocchio in painting is a journey into metaphor and symbolism. The wooden puppet, born as an archetype of innocence and transformation, can become a powerful mirror of the contemporary human condition, its invisible prisons and contradictions.
Description of the work
In this oil painting, Pinocchio is no longer the naive boy chasing dreams of freedom. He has aged, relegated to a corner of the house, no longer a dancing puppet but a body palliatively fixed to the wall and floor by wires that do not lift him, but bind him. His immobility is not an obvious prison, but a subtle, accepted, almost resigned condition. His nose, a symbol of lies but also of uncontrolled growth, extends until it touches the touch screen of a smartphone, as if his only contact with the world were mediated by technology, a distorted and mechanical interaction, more than human. And yet, his hands, with ten fingers as sharp as pencils, possess the potential of creation: he could write, draw, leave a mark… and yet not. Instead, he holds the carcass of a conscience, the Talking Cricket, now dead, reduced to a voiceless memory. Behind him, Mother Oak and Father Pino watch him silently, archetypes of his origins and of a nature that calls him, perhaps to awaken him or to reabsorb him into the wood from which he comes. They are his root and his destiny, witnesses of his history and his possible dissolution. This vision of Pinocchio is a powerful reflection on the condition of modern man: forced between the desire for freedom and the invisible chains of society, between creative power and the inability to use it, between technological progress and the loss of his own conscience. The absence of movement suggests that his transformation has stopped: no longer a puppet, but not completely human either, crystallized in an existential limbo.
