Pin-occhio
"Pin-occhio" is an oil painting by Michele di Erre that reinterprets the classic character of Pinocchio in a contemporary context. In this artwork, Pinocchio is depicted with a modern twist, interacting with a smartphone. His elongated nose serves a dual purpose, extending to manipulate the screen of the device—an imaginative nod to today's digital age and the growing intersection of technology and storytelling.
The visual representation highlights the theme of connectivity and the impact of digital media on our lives. Pinocchio, a symbol of innocence and the quest for identity, is portrayed as engaging with the tools of modern communication. This connection between traditional folklore and contemporary life invites viewers to reflect on how narratives evolve with time, and how technology shapes our interactions and perceptions. I employ vibrant colors and dynamic brushstrokes to breathe life into the characters and engage the audience’s imagination. The attention to detail in Pinocchio’s expression captures a sense of curiosity and perhaps a hint of caution regarding the digital world. The painting serves as a commentary on the transformation of childhood experiences in an era dominated by screens, while still honoring the timeless essence of the beloved character. In "Pin-occhio," visitors to galleries or art enthusiasts will find a thought-provoking piece that serves as a bridge between the past and present, reminding us that while storytelling methods may change, the core themes of exploration and growth remain constant.
In this series I explore the human possibilities of some characters from classic and modern fairy tales with new interpretations. The paintings in this gallery are mostly oils on different supports such as canvas and wood, in different sizes and prices. Each of these works take inspiration from my Urban Sketches, and then evolve into several elaborate compositions enriched with colours, characters or elements of the fairy tale universe.
Each work is certified with my signature on the back of the painting.
